The Girl of Fire and Thorns is the debut book novel for Rae Carson. This book was published on September 20, 2011 by Green Willow Books. It is the first book of the Fire and Thorns trilogy. Rae is 44 years old. She was born on August 17, 1973 in Oakland California. She now lives in Arizona with her husband. In this book there are many characters that have many different points of view on Lucero-Elisa(who is also the main character). Lucero-Elisa is the Princess of Orovalle (also known as just Elisa) who has been gifted with a Godstone. She is about 17 when her dad gives her hand in marriage to King Alejandro de Vega of Joya d’Arena. She is a very unconfident person going to get married, who does not want to marry or be queen. Then one day while traveling back to Joya d’Arena their wagon was attacked by the Invierne. Her lady-in-waiting gets injured and later dies due to infection. One night when she was asleep the leader of the rebel group, Cosmé, comes into her room with her brother, Humberto, and they kidnap her. They have the idea that because she is the godstone bearer, she can defeat the invierne. She is the the only hope for the Malficio. She does not believe that she is the right person for the job. She also believes that god made a mistake by giving her the godstone and have the “ powers of god”. She was soon after, captured by the invierne and taken to the Animagi’s tent. ( The Animagi is the most powerful invierne and are also the the leaders.) She then somehow tricks an Animagi into sipping his tea which she has poisoned to make her escape without him noticing. She then, after she escapes, sets the Animagi’s tent on fire killing him. She then quickly runs out of the camp. Then when she went back to her village she was told that their was a message for her from Conde Treviño, the father of Alejandro's mistress. The message said that he wanted an alliance with the Malficio. When they went to his village, they found out that he was a traitor and had an alliance with the
