Chapter One
Nothing seemed to be happening, so they all ignored the loud noises. That is, until the noises became louder and they saw the flickering of the flames.
The pirates had lit at least twenty torches and were marching down the street, looking to cause chaos and mischief. The leader, the infamous Captain Mako, laughed boisterously and stumbled into a house. He yelled, “Burn them all down! The flames are pretty!”
The other pirates cheered and threw their flaming torches at the porches of homes after throwing down their oil lanterns. In a burst of flames and sparks, the oil ignited and the fire started to eat away at the wood of the banisters and stairs. The people that lived in those homes shrieked and ran out the back doors, escaping the smoke and fire that licked at the windows now.

These are not like the pirates we usually get here. These people are not in their right minds. You need to get away from here as fast as you can.”
Scared, Larissa grabbed her mother’s hand. “I can’t leave without you!”
Her mother sighed and smiled gently, prying her young daughter’s hand away from her own. “But you must. They can’t get both of us. They’ll just prolong our deaths. If they have to take one of us, it will be me. I need you to run. Now.” Her voice left no room for argument.
With tears streaming down her face, Larissa wiped them away and nodded. “Alright, mother. If that is what you wish.”
Standing up to peek out the window, her mother saw the approaching flames and started to direct Larissa towards the back door. “You must run into the woods. It will be harder for them to find you if you run into the trees. You will find better shelter there, as well.” Laying a soft kiss on Larissa’s forehead, she smiled, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. “Good luck, my

There could be more than one definition of a beautiful place; they all differ from each other. For example, the sight and sound of ocean waves colliding with each other as they ooze onto the shore of the beach could be a definition of a beautiful place; however, the sight of gleaming city lights with the glowing silver shine of the moon resting in the sky could also be a definition of a beautiful place. Hume Lake Christian Camp is my definition of a beautiful place. It is located in the Sequoia National Forest in Hume, Fresno County, California.…

Throughout the many ages, pirates have always been a center of fascination. Depicted as swashbuckling, carefree, and charismatic individuals, pirates have inspired many children to one day become pirates themselves. However, this depiction of pirates is far from how legitimate pirates are. Genuine pirates are not swashbuckling, carefree, nor charismatic, but, are more of an individual who “disrupts” the ocean, thereby being labeled as a criminal. In the documentary, Stolen Seas, directed by Thymaya Payne, he disillusions the whole romantic perception of pirates and portrays how difficult and lawless they really are.…

The sun wasn't even quite up, yet the flames made the area almost bright as day, raging flames that lapped away at the bases of the large concrete structures built long before the war and dotted the wasteland for some distance, flames that stood as a testament to the cruelty and savageness of the attack as well as the power of the attacking gang. These flames had dwindled over time but many of the constructions of the trader camp still burned brightly and energetically. At first glance it was almost like the area had been hit with a flamethrower or fire spell. Yet, these flames were not created by any weapon made by the hands of man - the attack had come swiftly and with no warning, only the silent gust of air a signal before the trader camp…

I watched as the whole building exploded into smithereens, an explosion that resonated even 5 miles away.…
