In this chapter, Paul, Tjaden, Kropp, Detering, and Kat must guard a supply dump in abandoned in a small town. This is an amazing experience for them because they are surrounded by this luxurious and they take advantage of it all. They find some food and decided to cook it all and have a nice dinner. However, once the enemy saw the smoke they bombed the house. The boys ragout and made it to the dugout and finished their meal. This was a special moment between the boys. They were experiencing something special and nice for once during the war. Later in the chapter Kropp and Paul are hurt by a shell, Kropp hurt his knee and Paul broke his leg and hurt his arm.
