Literary criticism is not negative or corrective, it is asking analytical questions about the works one has read or watched. Siskel & Ebert Halloween (1978) is a literary criticism because, the host and co-host are asking why people think that Halloween is such a great film even though it is older than the others people think are horrible to watch. The host comments on how there is a difference between good scary movies and movies that demean half of the human race, movies that are violent and entertaining and that are gruesome and despicable, and there is a difference between a horror movie and a freak show. Since its release in 1978, John Carpenter’s film Halloween has become a staple in the horror genre. This film is regarded as highly influential, being dubbed “a cornerstone of the modern horror film” by one critic (Vishnevetsky). Though the film tells the story of Michael Myers, it is the female lead, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, who captures the attention of the audience. In this analysis, I will provide evidence that Curtis’ character, Laurie Strode, is an example of Carol Clover’s trope of the Final Girl. I will also discuss how this film relates to Laura Mulvey’s concept of the Male Gaze and furthermore, Sigmund Freud’s psychosexual stages of development theory.…

Halloween is like a horror movie, except with drunk teenagers instead of axe murders. It was about two years ago, when we were still living in Germany. It was a fairly peaceful Halloween night and the sun was about to set. My friends and I were walking around the village, what Germans call a town. After about half an hour of us walking around and talking, some acne filled, tall, muscular and older, German teenagers came up to us.…

As I passed through downtown Atlanta, I couldn't help admire the home of the Braves, not just because it was an architectural wonder but because it brought back to mind that very first lesson when Professor Van Huevelen sparked my curiosity when he said we find that there are some things in this world that are repeatable. Repeatable. Repeatable. So a baseball pitcher, if he throws a ball with the same speed and in the same direction, spinning the ball the same, it'll end up going about the same place.…

Halloween, an American tradition where young children can go ‘trick or treating’ around their neighbourhood, however, this has risen the debate of whether this celebration is a safe or a suitable one to be part of. An opinion piece was published on Mamamia on the 29th of October, 2015, titled ‘Why my kids won’t be doing Halloween’, written by Alissa Warren, implies that Halloween is a ridiculous and an inappropriate event to be participated by anyone. The article was also accompanied by a visual image that displays some kids in costume, trick or treating, with no one around and followed by a comment, written…
