Dawson manages to save the son but is killed after crazy Ted shoots him in the head. While all of this is going on Amanda’s son had been in an accident and needs a heart transplant in order to survive. Later on Amanda learns that it was Dawson’s heart that her son received.CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT The two main characters in this book are Dawson Cole and Amanda Collier. Dawson is Amanda’s high school sweetheart. He comes from a family of criminals, but does not want to continue the family name. He is someone who mainly keeps to himself and is generally introverted, but at the same times is also and extremely generous person. He was directly introduced to us at the beginning of the book. This character is fairly vivid. Throughout the entirety of the book he is described fairly well, enough to create an image of him, and who he is as a person. Amanda is the high school sweetheart of Dawson. She is a wife and a mother to 3 kids. Amanda is a selfless person, always putting the needs of other ahead of her own. She was also introduced directly at the beginning of the book like Dawson, and is too a vivid character. Both Dawson and Amanda are realistic characters, just like most things in this book are. Because of her uncertainty of what to do with Dawson I also found at times that Dawson was confused as to how Amanda actually felt about him. A clear state of confusion demonstrated in this quote: "He still loved her, she was certain of that now, and the realization was intoxicating. She knew it was wrong, and she tried to force the feeling away, but Dawson and their past had taken root once more, and she could no longer deny the simple truth that for the first time in years, she'd felt like she'd finally come home." (Chapter 7, pg. 121) clearly Amanda is aware of the fact that Dawson is still indeed in love with her, but she does not know what to do in this situation. Also, based on this quote you can imagine the confusion that Dawson must have been felling. He knows that he loved her and that she felt something back, but then why was it that she was still with her husband. This also confused me the same way it di to Dawson. Why is that she was still with her husband if she truly loved Dawson and stay with him? This book continuously demonstrated several instances of confusion and for this reason I believe that the overall tone of the book was confusion. THEME There are three main themes throughout this book. Fate/ destiny, love is patient; love is kind, competent love is the love
