The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is a book about a kid named Junior who lives on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Junior is small for his age and suffers from seizures, poor eyesight, stuttering, and lisping, which therefore means he gets picked on. The only person that stands up for him is his best friend Rowdy. Early on in this book you see how poor the family is, as when Junior's dog Oscar gets heat stroke, his father has to put him down because they can’t afford to take him to a vet. On his first day of the new school year his geometry teacher, Mr. P, hands out the textbooks, Junior sees his mother's maiden name written in his, frustrated, Junior violently throws the book, which hits Mr. P's face, breaking his nose.
