Instead of looking at limitations, imagine the possibilities. We need to go out of our way to make the content we teach interesting, we need to position lessons so that students can make connections to their daily lives, and we need to reframe the "boring" content as something amazing. The book was interesting, entertaining, and instructive. You could really feel Dave Burgess’s enthusiasm in the book, his passion for teaching, and his desire to teach like a pirate. He is definitely all about engagement for the kids and bringing out the fun and joy in teaching. Burgess argues that it is our job as teachers to inspire students, create lifelong learners, and engage kids each and every day in the learning process. He supports his arguments with quips, memorable stories, and honesty that cannot be ignored throughout his entire book. What I like the most about this book is the fact that it can be used at any grade level, in any content area, and it includes a lot of self-reflection. This book allows for the reader to pick up on their strengths and their weaknesses and how they can then improve on their weaknesses. Teach Like a Pirate includes 30 “hooks” specially designed to engage students and 176 brainstorming questions to boost teachers’ creativity levels. In schools, it is so hard to teach students the standards, incorporate creativity, and making the lessons engaging, but Burgess shows us exactly how we can do all of this just buy incorporating the PIRATE teaching philosophy into our classrooms. I would definitely recommend this book to all educators, because we can all take something away from this book, and improve our classrooms in one way or
