Summary Of Superman And Me By Sherman Alexie

Ever since the first colonists arrived in the 1600s, Indians all over have been treated terribly. Even today, many Native Americans have been mistreated by not being able to have some of the privileges that most other people have. For the kids, they aren't able to get the education they deserve, so people just expect them to be the ”dumb” one in their classes. Sherman Alexie, however, was different from the other Native American kids. Alexie wanted to learn more, but the other kids just stayed back and let themselves be called the ”dumb” one. Throughout his childhood, he wanted to learn and read as much as he could. Some time after becoming an adult and finding a job, he states in his article, ”Superman and Me”, ”Despite all the books I read, I am still surprised I became a writer.” This quote helps develop the main idea and tone of the article by explaining what he does as a writer, how it impacts kids all everywhere he goes, and how he felt as a writer and when he was a kid.
