Throughout the novel, Sausanna keeps questioning her mental state at the hospital. She also becomes close to her world of depression, suppressed anger, hate, and sadness. She becomes friends with many other patients on ward. Like Lisa, who entertained patient with her escape attempts and exaggerated disregard to hospital authorities. And Georgina, Susanna's roommate at the hospital, who was having a relationship with a guy named Wade, a violent and unstable guy from another ward. She felt like she was a strong woman trapped in a diseased mind. So she was forced to find herself and put the pieces back together before being admitted to the normal world. And at the end she did get better and was released, where she found a husband that kept taking her trips and spent money with her, although he felt bad about spending a lot of money but Susanna always talks him into it.
