Caucasian female living in Perry Township in Canton, Ohio. Perry Township is a small community between Canton, Ohio and Massillon. The client has three children, Brandon, age 6, Brooke, age 4, and Brant, age 2. The children currently live with their father in North Canton, Ohio. Within the last year, she started a new relationship with Bryan, and is now living in his home in Perry Township. Previously, she was living with Brandon, who is father of her 3 children. The client is enrolled part-time at Stark State University, majoring in accounting. The client was the main caregiver for her brother, David, who recently moved closer to college. The client is currently employed at a bar, working evenings so she can be home with her children …show more content…
The client has been estranged from her father since her mother passed away. She reported that “her father was abusive to her mother and brothers.” The client mentioned that her father and another brother named Jeremy, have had substance abuse issues. Her Father and Jeremy have been in and out of substance abuse treatment centers several times since the client’s mother passed away.
She has a dysfunctional relationship with her paternal Grandmother and Aunt. The client disclosed she stopped talking and visiting her Grandmother and Aunt for two years because, “they are enable her Father and Jeremy by giving them money for alcohol and drugs.”
The client has admitted to drinking alcohol during the day to cope with the stress of raising three children, and to help with the depression over the loss of her mother. Alcohol has been used by people as a coping skill for stress and depression (Dermody, S. S., Cheong, J., & Manuck, S. 2013).
Effect of problem on others
The client has stated that her drinking has caused problems with the relationship she has had with both of her boyfriend and the father of her children. According to the client, “she gets into arguments with her boyfriend and the father of her children.” The client admits that when she gets into arguments with Grandmother and Aunt about her father and brother, she will not allow them to see her
