In Stepping into the Wardrobe: A Fantasy Genre Study, by Maria Colleen Cruz, two teachers conducts a genre study to introduce their students to the magical world of fantasy (Cruz 185). However, the teachers challenge the idea that fantasy is just a “fun” genre for entertainment, and turn it into a great teaching opportunity for their students (Cruz 185). The two teachers find that fantasy keeps their students interested in the lesson and that it is a great way to teach their students about overcoming challenges (Cruz 194).
