Since it’s also taking part of a work from another person without proper credit. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that we have very serious offenses similar to those who have practiced the real plagiarism.…

Students are held responsible for understanding plagiarism and the ways of avoiding it. Students should know better than to allow other students “borrow” their work, encouraging peers…
Willful Ignorance: Why the “Positive Society” is Harmful Contrary to popular belief, happiness doesn't result from refusing to think negatively. So many individuals have bought into this notion that in order to feel happy, in order for positive things to happen, negative aspects of life must be ignored. American culture, starting in the workplace and moving to society as a whole, has perpetrated this idea that people can’t be negative, can’t embrace a negative outlook, and can’t criticize something. Doing so often results in being relieved of your duties. Barbara Ehrenreich, in her lecture “Smile or Die”, mentions a few examples in recent years: “...you know people who try, let's say, within Lehman Brothers to point out that the housing prices…
We all can agree that wherever we go, we are told to not copy anyone’s work and to be original. Everyone gets ideas from other people and builds upon that which can make it hard to understand what can be plagiarism and what is not. This last issue with plagiarism that Gladwell described really puts the issues writers face into the light. People can write about anything, but what they do not realize is that somewhere it has been written before in a separate way and somewhere down the line somebody else will write about the same thing in their own unique…
As time progresses, more and more people are accused of plagiarism. In the previous years it was not such a big concern. It has not yet become a crime to plagiarize, but you give yourself a possibility of being sued. When it comes to school, you can be expelled from the college, and it stays in your school record. Plagiarism does not only take place in writing, but also with clothes and music.…
As original as Isaac Newton may have been, even he recognized “if I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” Ironically, he probably developed this idea based off of the thoughts of someone before him. Newton accurately describes the way our culture progresses; we build on the ideas of others. This idea of rehashing is further explained in Malcolm Gladwell 's article “Something Borrowed;” he urges his audience to stop pretending “that these chains of influence and evolution do not exist, and that a writer’s words have a virgin birth”(12). Gladwell further argues that as long as one transforms someone’s ideas—similar to what Newton did—it is not considered plagiarism (11).…

William M. Chace argues that this decline can be solved by improving our stance on plagiarism. By better educating our students on plagiarism and helping them develop their moral awareness, we can reverse this downward slope that the American education system is currently in. In this reading the common theme of education is present all throughout this…
That theory does not wash with Sarah Wilensky, a senior at Indiana University, who said that relaxing plagiarism standards “does not foster creativity, it fosters laziness.” “You’re not coming up with new ideas if you’re grabbing and mixing and matching,” said Ms. “Now we have a whole generation of students who’ve grown up with information that just seems to be hanging out there in cyberspace and doesn’t seem to have an author,” said Teresa Fishman, director of the Center for Academic Integrity at Clemson University. Wilensky, whose writing skills earned her the role of informal editor of other students’ papers in her freshman dorm, plagiarism has nothing to do with trendy academic…
In Susan D. Blum’ s article “Academic Integrity and Student Plagiarism: a Question of Education, Not Ethics,” she makes an excellent analysis about the issue of plagiarism in America. She points out two different views of plagiarism in western academic community recent years, that is, either treating plagiarism as a matter of morality or as a crime. However, nether of theses two approaches are failed, because there are many factors, like friendship, can incite students to break the honor codes, and many students still choose to ignore rules governing academic integrity. Thus, she concludes that for American students, plagiarism is not an issue of ethics, instead, it reflects a big problem in education. To prevent American students to plagiarize, like what she says: “Treating academic integrity as a constellation of skills, taught largely through the long apprenticeship of higher education, is the most promising approach for getting students to follow the rules of academic citation, and the one with the least likelihood of providing a shortcut.”…
From reading the interesting article by Malcolm Gladwell, named “Something Borrowed” from the New Yorker magazine I thing the many ways of plagiarism shown is eye-opening. I think when you ask me if I believe that many artists borrow as a basic model of the artistic/creative process, I think that it is very common for many artists borrow as a basic model of the artistic/creative process because it always goes back to the way information is given to you in your educational career and things you learn and experience, if you read the same book as another artist and you get inspiration. I think it is also unfair to penalize someone if it was all from inspiration from other artists because I think all artists can build their creativity up by talking…
