When I first joined FFA, I had no idea of the impact it would have on me. Funnily enough, I originally thought of it just as a stepping stool into become a veterinarian- obviously plans have changed. And although my original goal and reason for joining has changed, I’m grateful that I did join, because FFA has impacted me in more ways than one. It goes beyond other experiences because as far as an educational experience goes, it has taught me a great deal than I ever expected. FFA has gone beyond just teaching me about cows, plants, and farming, it’s taught me business, life and leadership skills.…

Set against a backdrop of unbelievable and sometimes ludicrous situations, “Swamplandia!” by Karen Russell demonstrates how quickly and unexpectedly life can spin out of control. The young narrator Ava Bigtree warns the reader from the beginning that her family was headed for a fall. She doesn’t, however, tell her readers how close the family came to a disaster before they reconnected with each other. The way the individual members of the family dealt with the death of Hilola Bigtree from ovarian cancer was the starting point from which the other problems faced by the family members grew. Sam “Chief” Bigtree threw himself into his work and tried to pretend the problems around him didn’t exist.…

This report requested by Michele Bartosek pertains to the Alpha Kappa Psi Career Fair, hosted at Central Michigan University (CMU). While attending my first CMU career fair, I was not actively seeking an internship, but rather gaining experience and building my network. When I walked into Finch Fieldhouse, I did not expect there to be 143 tables worth of future employers, all squeezed into one gym. Although the Alpha Kappa Psi career fair was extremely overwhelming and stressful, it was beneficial to go as a freshman to understand what I can improve on at the next career fair. I understand the importance of many potential employers attending this event at this venue to maximize the opportunity for the students, however having so many people…

If I could turn my passion into a successful business it would be a small school for the arts. I think it is a good idea because there are many people who love the arts like I do and the small school would be where they go to learn more. You can love music and not know what a time signature is but, if you went to a class about music then you could learn much more. There are many students that love the arts however they are not given the opportunity to take art class, dance, music class,or drama at their schools, this would given them the chance. The way I would start my business would be to go to school for business but continue doing the arts along with working to save money.…

One of my objectives was to increase the efficiency of the center by applying the knowledge I was going to be learning. Despite that I learned many theories and concepts about how organizations work, I was not able to make ample applications due to the lack of opportunities. One primary anticipation I had of the Wellness Center was to be given new job duties and responsibilities beyond what is given to ordinary student assistants. I believed that my experience and knowledge of three years would have given me an advantage for consideration.…

Today, halfway through my spring break as a high-school junior, I am somewhere that may surprise you. Somehow, I have found myself six feet under a century old house, slowly chipping away at a wall of dirt and clay. I’m dressed in a bright yellow jumpsuit, breathing through a mask, with a hammer in my right hand, and a chisel in my left. As I take my first break of the eight-hour workday, I look at the progress I have made. Over the last few hours I managed to clear out another foot or so of hard clay, slowly making my way to the other end of the house.…
