Snowman hesitated to go back to Rejooven Esense Compound because he refuse to relive his past. Snowman's past still remains a constant inner conflict; however, Snowman's inescapable past are at odds with his will to survive. Even thought Snowman hesitant to go back to Rejooven Esence Compound, he still have to travel back there in order to avoid dying of starvation. At this point in the story, the reader can infer that something tragic had happened to Snowman before at Rejooven Esence Compound that make him refuse to travel back there and relive/ remember his past.
