The author, Lauren F. Serrano, believes women should not serve in the U.S Infantry. Serrano’s article, “Why Women Do Not Belong in the U.S. Infantry”, provides arguments supporting her main points. The main points Serrano includes; why the U.S. is not in need for women on the frontlines, the infantry brotherhood, and sexual assault cases. Serrano served as a Marine Officer and contributes her personal experiences from her service. Although Serrano agrees women are capable to serve in the military, she stresses the infantry is not the main job females should focus on.…
Remember when segregation was an issue? Remember when sexism were an issue? I do, and that issue is still going on today. “Why Marines, Unlike Army and Navy, Are So Against Women in Combat” by Anna Malrine speaks of the injustice and sexist attitudes portrayed by the Marin Corps in recent discussions. Malrine is honest when she speaks of the wrongful attitudes toward women in this article, women in combat could help our marines not hurt them, women can help have a different mindset, open up areas that men can not fit in, and work with the women of the world.…
According to the article, “Roles for Women in WW2”, states that, “At first the government politely discouraged those women who wanted to perform some kind of military service.” The women of this workforce war era drastically changed the pathway for future women to come as well as in the…
They are too sensitive at times, distracting, and they give birth to the children. These are only a few of the arguments used to justify why women would not be as useful in the army. Men use war to prove how masculine they are and by adding women to the equation it would make it harder for them to do that. Even women being nurses during war wasn’t acceptable at first, until all the male nurses were called to fight in war. (Paul Schue Lecture).…
September 1st 1939, the US thought they had just gotten out of the worst war they'd be in, until now. A lot of people were drafted, all men. They thought that we would never get involved with wwII until the date December 8th, 1941. What is remembered most about that war was the fall of the Nazi's and their leader. However most don't recognize who helped in wwII, and defeated the axis powers.…
However, in the past few years the Pentagon lifted a ban on women serving in combat; this opened up front line positions for all women in the armed services (Fromer par. 1). Now that women are allowed to have any military position, it is perfectly reasonable that they should be listed for the draft. In 2016 President Obama voiced his opinion that he believes women registering for the draft is the most logical step America can take, in that women are allowed to fight in any combat position now (“Obama signs”). Since American men have to bear such a responsibility, women should too now that the military field is equal. Women are now equal to men in the realm of the military, so there is no reason to exclude them from the selective services.…
Women have, for years, been denied combat roles in the military and that is precisely the argument held by the Pentagon for giving women immunity from the Selective Service. They reason that because women have not had equal opportunity as men in the military, then they should not be asked to carry the burden that would come in the event of a draft. This was valid argument for the matter, that is, up until as recently as January 2016 when the Pentagon decided to open all combat roles to both men and women including Special Operations forces. As a result the military now concedes that women can perform in combat roles, so the rationale for why they shouldn’t be…
In the passage “Policy: Women in combat” the author talks about reasons why women can not and should not be in combat positions. However, in the lines of these two things seemed to be blurred rather than concrete. The passage gave an example of articles that emphasize this belief. They gave the article that former senator of virginia wrote which was a clear outline of common reasons as to why women should not be in combat. Some of the reasons he listed is as follows: that the fact women can get pregnant is seen as a weakness, that physically and emotionally they are not strong enough, and finally that they would distract the soldiers from the task at hand.…
Imagine being in a combat situation; under direct fire from the enemy. Then a bullet the size of a baby carrot strikes you in the thigh. Unable to move with blood gushing from the wound, you look around at your squad members. Private Johnson on your left is a short yet broad fellow and Private First Class Jennings is on your right, a petite, yet athletic female. With all your combat gear you weigh in at roughly two hundred and twenty-five pounds.…
A specific legislation opposed the role of women in the military, it’s been a long contentious issue, one plagued by sexist notions that devalue women’s physical abilities and emotional maturity. Many feminists will recall that Phyllis Schlafly, architect of the Stop ERA movement, asserted that the Equal Rights Amendment would subject women to the draft and for that reason and a few others like unisex bathrooms, the amendment should be opposed. The National Organization for Women is a grassroots feminist organization. The strength of our endorsement lies with the support and enthusiasm that our members bring to the campaigns of candidates endorsed by NOW PAC. NOW…
It was not until after World War II that women took part in combat. Before 1945, women had to disguise themselves as men or become nurses to take part in the military. Following WWII, the Women’s Services Integration Act was passed in 1948. This gave women a permanent spot in combat and in service. Large amounts of women joined the military after the seventies.…
Since I was a little girl, I have wanted to be a part of the military. I was fascinated with the sacrifice that was continuously given by soldiers, the call to a cause bigger than themselves, the hard work, the loyalty, and the risk and the bond soldiers shared with each other. Unfortunately, there have been less women than men enlisting in the military; if they do work for the military, they usually become army doctors, nurses, interpreters, and so on instead of field operatives. Some say women cannot accurately shoot a gun or that they are not built for combat because of their low stamina and strength, or that they are not worth investing in because of all the time they spend in childbirth. However, there is evidence that women can overcome…
This article expresses the supporting and opposing views of women in Combat. Supporters say that women are fully capable of being in combat, while the opposition is women in combat is less effective to the military because they are not as physically capable. This is overall a good source to use in the introduction because it gives both view points and basic information to set the argument. “Women in the Military Follow-Up: Pentagon Lifts Restrictions on Women in Combat.” Issues& Controversies.…
“Perhaps the most important argument for maintaining gender equality at every level is that it’s necessary to truly enable women to have successful careers within the military”(the muse). The armed forces need to treat everyone equally no matter what gender. Women are allowed to be on the front lines if they choose to. No one can force someone to do something they don 't want to do either. Everyone has to pass the same recommendations to be in the armed forces and on the front lines not everyone wants to be there , if that where you want to be put the effort forward.…
Women served in combat roles since the first wars took place and continue to serve today. Recently, the combat ban was repealed and now women may serve in any area previously restricted to men. Citizens of the United States have two different viewpoints on this issue. Some believe women should serve in any position that men serve in, while others believe that women cannot serve in positions restricted to men. The military is drafting information to successfully transition women into all positions.…
