Summary
Private Investigator, Marlowe meets an alcoholic name Terry Lennox, at the club and later finds him drunk falling out his car, Marlowe then helps him get home. A week later, the two meet again, but Marlowe finds Terry drunk on the streets and rescuing him again from getting the cops attention. After the two spend time at the bar drinking and getting to know each other Terry asks Marlowe a favor by giving him a ride to the airport after Terry ‘s involvement with his wife's murder. Marlowe then accepts his request and was later questioned by the police for helping Terry escape. He helps Terry escape to Mexico. When it comes to fights, Marlowe is not intimidated at all. For example, Candy, Rogers servant, pulls a knife on Marlowe and caught him and said he could crack Candy’s elbow so hard that he can never use his knife again.
Terry Lennox, who is known as Paul Marston and Cisco Mairanos. After escaping to Mexico with a help of Marlowe he later fakes his death. Terry was known to be an alcoholic because of the times he caught in the streets drunk.
Sylvia Lennox, Terry’s ex-wife but only knows him by the name of Paul Marston. She has slept with man men. She was later found murdered in the guest house by Eileen.
Candy, Roger Wade’s Bodyguard/ Servant, he didn’t like Marlowe at first because he thought he was a danger to Roger. He mentions his full name Juan Garcia de Soto yo Soto-mayor. Protects Roger with his life.
Roger Wade, a famous writer for his number of romance novels and who has had an affair with Sylvia Lennox during time of her murder. Roger is a huge alcoholic and always gets drunk so he can work on his book but it also sometimes affects Eileen even abusively. He was later then murdered by Eileen

Then the theme statement I chose for independence is “Not everyone’s going to be there for you, so you will learn to handle things on your own”. I chose this because Marlowe doesn’t really have anyone but himself and because everyone around just wants him out of their way so he does things throughout the novel on his own like fighting, rescuing, and finding evidence to support his
