Firsts of all, this book is rather short so it does not necessarily analyze every little thing and so you do not necessarily get all the information you might want. Second of all, it is not all of Voigt’s books as of this date being analyzed so you might not see all the books you want analyzed. Last of all, this book is not necessarily just a biography of Voigt so if you are looking for a book with just a biography of Voigt this book would not be it even thought its name is Presenting Cynthia Voigt. However, with all that being said, this is honestly a great book and it would be pretty mind boggling if this paper could just go on and on about how great this book is, but since that cannot happen, there is just going to be a summary of what makes this book great. Presenting Cynthia Voigt is basically an analysis and a bit of a summary of Voigt’s books. It is comprised of seven chapters and the chapters, excluding the first chapter and last chapter which just talks about Voigt herself and what makes her important in young adult literature, are grouped by central motifs found in Voigt’s works. Skipping the introduction of Voigt which is just the biography, the second chapter is about defining the self what makes a person a person basically and the characters in the novels that are analyzed in this chapter learn that people are not always what they appear. This can be seen when Jean, the heroine of The Callender Papers, realizes that “beneath Enoch’s [a man that the heroine once thought was a kind man] charming exterior lies a snake.”In the third chapter, it explores the central motif in the Tillerman series which is, as stated in the title in the previous paragraph, basically reaching out, holding on, and letting go.
