Summary Of Phoenix And Thomas Builds-The Fire

Decent Essays
At the beginning of the story I learnt that Victor has just lost his job, that his father has died from a heart attack, and that shortly Victor will be in great discomfort because of what he is about to find out. He had no money and the only source of money he had was one hundred dollars from the BIA and three hundred dollars from his father’s bank account. He needed Thomas, but was running away from this reality. However, this discomfort Victor is about to feel is soon stopped by the character of Thomas Builds-the-Fire, who brings into the story both hope and comic relief. Phoenix is not only a city but also the name of a bird in Egyptian tradition that rises from its own ashes and is born-again, making it a symbol of immortality and rebirth.

For example, when they were walking to his father’s trailer Thomas kept talking so Victor started to get annoyed and threw his water into the bush.…
