In this story, Papa's Parrot by Cynthia Rylant, Harry's relationship with his father changed throughout the years. In the beginning of the story Harry always went to the candy store that his dad owned every day and he really enjoyed going. When he turned seven, he didn't like candy or nuts anymore; "in spite of this, he and Mr. Tillian remained friends and were still friends the year Harry turned twelve" (Rylant 1). He still went to the store because he liked spending time with his dad. When Harry turned twelve he stopped going to the store after school. He went to play video games with his friends instead.
