Overcoming Fear A speaker that had an effective message was Victor Garcia. Victor defeated a huge fear on the day he presented. This fear was public speaking. Victor conquered his fear and I saw traits from, An Essential Guide to Public Speaking, while listening to Victor. I noticed how Victor’s essay talked about his fear of speaking, but he was clearly overcoming his fear by presenting his speech. In the book, An Essential Guide to Public Speaking, they talked about the gift of language. They defined the gift of language as so, “We do not merely speak; we encourage, ridicule, promise, pray, deceive, and so much more”(21). I think Victor overcame his fear because he realized his voice is a gift. Although he was nervous about the way he talked
