They made the story seems too real. Place setting at the theater was four ways, with space in the middle an one side with the hospital setting. Light was changing depending on the situation. They were using each part of the theater including isle. When narrator will speak whole theater will be dark and sound would come from the wall. They also used the animation like birds flying and the sound of rain and spring. The setting looks like the hospital. Every actor has their job to do, with completion of each scene actors will carry their table chair and with 2-3 set is ready with new scene. Clothing wise nurse were wearing white uniform, patients were wearing hospital provided uniform and McMurphys’ two girl friends were wearing colorful dress. Life is a fragile collection of events and perceptions. Each perception has the potential to change in an instant, but only if the individual is emotionally involved. In “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” by Ken Kesey, Kesey demonstrates that life remains an illusion until traumatic life events alter this self-perception--providing the individual is capable of experiencing empathy. In the cases of Bromden and McMurphy during their time in the mental institution, their view of reality alters drastically by events they witness, while there is no change experienced by Nurse Ratched as she is unable to experience empathy.…

McMurphy’s actions and intentions causes himself and Bromden to be sent to the Disturbed and receive the electric shock treatments. Furthermore, McMurphy’s intentions of helping Billy Bibbit to have fun has a severe consequence. McMurphy invited a prostitute named Candy to ward, in hopes of helping Billy accomplish something that he was wanted to do for a long time, but was unable to do so because of his overbearing mother. McMurphy’s influence and set up causes Billy’s fate when Nurse Ratched threatens to tell his mother that he slept with a prostitute in the ward. Patients who threaten suicide or show symptoms of it “show extreme hostility, aggression, agitation, and irritability” which Billy showed all of these symptoms when Nurse Ratched threatened to call his mother (“Personality Patterns of suicidal mental hospital patients.”).…

Peter and the Starcatcher is an exhilarating and adventurous story that tells the tale of the well known free-spirited boy, Peter Pan’s backstory. Peter and the Starcatcher is based on the 2004 novel written by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, which was fashioned into a play by Rick Elice. I had an exceptional experience of seeing the play on March 29, at 9:30, adapted by director, Kerry Bishop on the A.B Lucas Secondary School stage. This play certainly catches the whimsical and wonderful essence of the boy who never grew up and how he came to be. Starring Aidan Peters as Peter, Makayla Ashenden as Molly Astor, Michael Jenkinson as Black Stache and the entire A.B Lucas cast put together a humorous and heartwarming performance, leaving me on…

Although the party at the end of the play is a way for McMurphy to escape the institution, he does not. He feels obliged to stay to see through everyone else. He is willing to sacrifice his only chance of freedom from Nurse Ratched’s suppressive rules to make sure the other patients will be alright. McMurphy uses his confidence to override Nurse Ratched’s oppressive regime in order to protect the others. Through McMurphy’s journey in the ward, we have seen how one person can sacrifice themselves in imperative situations.…

These are all qualities that lack within the persona known to be Randle Patrick McMurphy. McMurphy a sexually bolded, rowdy criminal is the furthest thing from a hero. McMurphy in fact is the counter opposite of a hero, he is an anarchist, a man who has no respect for the government or laws that pertain to him. As soon as McMurphy steps foot on to the ward, the audience has been introduced to a so called saviour who is correctly described by John Zubizarreta of Columbia College as someone who “ romps and rants throughout the film, making shambles of the nurse’s order and gaining the audience’s implicit approval,”(Zubizarreta 1). As soon as McMurphy makes his presence on to the screen, automatically the scenes ambience changes from one of a calm, smooth wave to one of a dark, and thunderous thunderstorm.…

For my concert critique, I went to Jason Terry’s Doctoral Piano Recital on Tuesday, December 1st at the School of Music in room 206. Because Terry was able to pick the pieces he played, he picked a range of different pieces to emphasize his wide range of talent. He included older and modern pieces including Bach, Godowsky, Balakirev, Zorn, and Liszt. The first piece he played was “Prelude & Fugue, BWV 872” composed by Bach. I was a little unsure about the nature and form of this piece because it was unlike some of the more structured pieces we listen to in class.…

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a novel description of the events they took place in a psychiatric facility, which emphasizes about hospital protocols, human behaviors, and managerial powers. Comparing McMurphy and the big Nurse known as ratched in this novel, both represents two different kinds of human characteristics struggling for power in a mental institution in their own management style. Patrick McMurphy is a new patient in the treatment ward, he was on admission for the claim of insanity as a means of avoiding a community service for the crime he committed. He is entertaining, loving and always advocating for other patients in the attempts to quash the fear the patients have towards Big Nurse by rallying them to oppose her commanding…

    Broadway Musical Analysis

When professor mentioned that we would watch and discuss about a Broadway Musical show named ‘Memphis’, the first that came to my mind was, the actual city Memphis in the southern state of Tennessee. I was still confused as to how a city and its activities could be incorporated into a Musical show, which is assumed to be entertaining with melodramatic components, dance and music. I had an assumption that it would be academic, political, boring since it is to be watched in a classroom setting and that a professor would not choose something entertaining or something of the liking of the younger generation. I deduced that this play might touch the topic of race since race defined how a person is treated in most southern states. I assumed that…

The ending to Ken Kesey’s novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, showcases the dramatic conclusion of the epic war between Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy. Both sides fought well and hard, and while each won their own victories and battles, Randle Patrick McMurphy came out as the winner. In a matter of weeks, McMurphy manages to break down the walls of the Combine and give the patients a glimpse of freedom and opportunity. He reveals the true nature of Nurse Ratched and the institution’s intentions to the patients spotlighting how the ward has deprived them of their human rights. McMurphy left so much of an impact within the ward community that a majority of the acutes decided to leave the ward either signing out or moving someplace…

Once he is in the mental institution, McMurphy meets Nurse Ratched, the head nurse of their ward. Nurse Ratched is a stern, controlling woman with no empathy for the patients whatsoever. Therefore, McMurphy and Nurse Ratched are at odds from the very beginning. As the movie goes on, McMurphy gets to know the other patients in his ward, and he becomes friends with all of them. Later in the film, McMurphy steals a bus from the hospital and takes himself and the other patients on a fishing trip, both to have some fun and to spite Nurse Ratched.…
