Odysseus as a lion were to gaze upon its prey and tear apart its victim to sustain its hunger.
Cerberus was not sent to kill Odysseus, but instead hold him captive and bring him to Hades in the
Underworld. Odysseus lacked the weapons needed to slay Cerberus and was vulnerable to its ferocity.
