In this poem, Sharon presents a theory in two worlds. It is about how white people look at African Americans. She helps us realize that all that talk about how time has changed people, is amazingly false. It all starts in the subway. There is a white lady that is face to face with another human being. In this case, the human being happened to be a black male. From her point of view. The lady talks about how the man has the casual cold look of a mugger. How is wearing red like his insides, black sneakers, and a set of scars. It gets to a point where she fears for her life, just because she is white and he is black.
