In “The Danger of a Single Story” by Chimamanda Adichie, she states that one reason that single stories less happened on Americans is “because of America’s cultural and economic power.” I agree with this thought by looking at Chinese history. Qing Dynasty government closed shorelines and ports in order to maintain its stable national economy at the end of 18th century. However, this movement did not help increase national finance, instead, interrupted and prevented the development of Chinese economy. The connection and communication between Chinese and other cultures were also cut off.…

Response 1: Narrative I worked for a lot of things during my high school career such as good grades, leadership roles, joining clubs, and getting accepted into national honor society. However, I had never wanted anything more than getting into the nursing and fundamentals program. This program was a three-semester long class in which allowed you to earn your certified nursing assistance license. I had heard so many great things about this program and wanting to be a nurse in the future I wanted to have my CNA license as base to start my nursing career.…

Two ways of responding that appeals to me the most would be “summary and sayback” and “voice.” These two appeal to me the most because summary and sayback provides the reader an opportunity to be able to recap what has transpired in regards to what was presented to them. Additionally, it provides the opportunity for the readers to state their opinion on the topic back to the provider. Voice is important to responding as the tone of voice is critical in being able to grasp the attention to the receiver and establish credibility for the provider. As mentioned in the reading, “most of all, do you trust the voice or person you hear in my writing?”…

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, writer of “The Danger of a Single Story”, grew up in Nigeria. Her parents were educators at a local university, and helped her to learn to absolutely love reading. However, the stories never depicted anyone that looked as she did. The characters only represented people that were white, blue eyed and ate apples. As she grew up she realized that -more often than not- only one side of a story is displayed.…

In Fee chapter ten he is explaining how we should read and interpret the covenant that was given to Israel. There are four major prophets and there is a number of minor prophets. Prophecy is typically misunderstood by the function and form. Fee also explains that the prophets primarily gave prophecy which was to speak for God to his people. Another issue we have when we read prophecy in the Old Covenant is because of the historical distance.…

Our business for the program was called KITS Books (the name was the initials of our first names combined). Our business was selling second hand books that we sourced for free at the Isla Capri Markets (every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month). This business allowed me to understand what it was like running a business and I felt as though I learned many valuable skills. The $20 Boss Program has really helped me with my entrepreneurial skills.…

Even when she was overcome with private responsibilities, Anthony read, developed feminist reasoning, and composed impressive addresses for the women’s movement (Kendall, n.d.). When she was at death’s door, Anthony stated that she had endeavored for over sixty years for just a little bit of fairness, yet never retrieved it. Anthony would often display her logic when debating or speaking to people. When an abolitionist clergyman told Anthony that because she had never been in matrimony, she had no business arguing about marriage, Anthony retorted that because he wasn’t a slave, he should quit talking about slavery. After Anthony assisted Mrs. Phelps, the spouse of a Massachusetts senator who had been beaten and sent to an insane asylum because…

Gérard Genette is a French literary theorist who developed the theory of narrative, which is the telling of a set of events or a story. The most basic terms from narratology are as follows; order, duration, frequency, voice and mood. The narrative of a story is traditionally told in chronological order, as this is a way for the story to be easily understood by its readers. However, by changing the time-frame of the story, the author is also changing their readers ways of reading and understanding the literary texts.…

This short story anthology is a collection of stories, which show step by step plot driven stories that follow traditional plot, but also being bad and dark, leaving the reader with a disturbing image, which does not replicate what many short stories are written about today. The stories I choose to include in my anthology are: “Where are you going Where have you been” by Joyce Carol Oates, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor, “The Other Place” by Mary Gaitskill, “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’brien, “Jumper Down” by Don Shea, “Jens” by Ross Nervig and Encounters with the Unexpected Animals” by Anthony Johnson. All these stories share a dark element within them making them all connect, leaving a perfect fit for this anthology.…
