Marie Javdani wrote “Plata o Plomo: Silver or Lead” to educate her audience about the war on drugs and to share her view on what needs to be done in order to end it. She started her essay with a very effective attention grabber, comparing and contrasting the lives of two young boys. On the surface Miguel and Eric seem to have no logistical connection, Eric lives in the US and Miguel lives in Columbia. Javdani made her essay more personal when she added names and images to the production of drugs through Miguel, and the consumption of drugs using Eric. Throughout her essay Javdani makes the reader feel pity towards Miguel. After all, it is not his fault that he is living in Columbia under drug lords. The essay was very informative, but still
