The learning experience as an intern was great and not much can be improved on the preceptor and hosting facility Medtronic in Fort Worth, Texas. An improvement can be made in extending the required 80 hours to complete the PPE Technical Level experience. An eighty hour internship does not allow enough time to fully understand data management software, hardware management, and data management system troubleshooting. The 80 hour timeframe does not give the student and preceptor the opportunity to really understand and really learn what it takes to run an IT Workshop and how much work is involved in managing a corporate medical network. The eighty hour requirement does allow the student the opportunity to develop a solid understanding of data management software and hardware foundation. A solid foundation in understanding software and hardware will help the student develop into a valuable HIIM professional within an HIIM …show more content…
Medtronic offers very competitive professional development benefits for employees. Professional development benefits include tuition reimbursement, vacation, paid time off up to two weeks dependent on the time an employee has been with the company. Medtronic values employee professional development and encourages employees to obtain a four year degree to advance within the company. Medtronic will not promote employees into a managerial or supervisor position if he or she does not have a four year degree.
