I think that Max’s father’s reputation as a criminal will negatively affect him more often throughout the book. For instance, on pages three and four, Max’s grandparents refer to his father as “him” as if his name is dangerous, because of his dark past. Also, on page twenty, Gwen runs away in fear from Max, because he is incredibly large and the son of a killer, which is revealed on page thirty-nine. Throughout his life, Max has and will always have to bear the burden of his father’s past, despite the fact that he is not like his father, which can be seen from these two instances. As his friendship with Freak begins to grow stronger, he will probably come across more problematic instances, in which he will not be seen as Max, but as the son
