Summary Of Matt Damon's Adjustment 'With Heart'

Improved Essays
The article “Matt Damon’s ‘Adjustment’ - It’s ‘The Matrix’ With Heart” by Leah Rozen starts off by comparing Matt Damon (the actor for the main character in the film) to other men who are considered great actors such as Tom Hanks and Harrison Ford. The main argument for the article is that Matt Damon makes the movie what it is. Rozen states that, Damon possesses a “fundamental decency [. . . and an] ability to project it convincingly on screen.” The problem that I have with the article is the fact that Rozen discuss in great detail how great of an actor Damon is and what qualities he brings to the film. However, the author makes an insignificant mention of Emily Blunt, whose character has an equally important role in the film (one could argue).

There is hope for a better reality of Americans when the few come together as a group, exposing themselves and others, and the documentaries Tough Guise 2 and Miss Representation speak to men and women and how they can change their bad gender image sold to them by the media. Tough Guise 2 observes men bred by the media to be leaders in America’s violent crimes. Miss Representation observes the role the entertainment industry plays in defining gender roles, but takes a closer look at what women can do to fight gender inequality in political spectrums where their positive example is lacking in areas where males predominate, and therefore attempts to do something about gender representation. Without diverse input from men outside the realm of the most famous, both documentaries miss an opportunity to reach an audience of men that could use their power to stand up against the plight of gender misrepresentation in the media.…

In the 2011 Miss Representation documentary, directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, it discusses the limited, but also degrading portrayals of women that mainstream media and culture produce. Newsom graduated from Stanford University with a Master’s degree in Business Administration and is a CEO, actress, filmmaker, and advocate. As a woman and an actress, she presents her belief that media is a huge contributor in making women feel powerless by providing several examples to deliver her message. Newsom effectively convinces the audience of Miss Representation that media under-represents women through the use of emotional appeals, appealing to credibility, and by including a counterargument but then refuting it.…

    Fahrenheit 451 Comparison

The novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is often compared and contrasted with its 1967 film counterpart, written and directed by François Truffaut. The minor differences between the novel and the film contribute to the way that Bradbury’s message is received by the audience. The novel better conveys Bradbury’s message of the destruction of the individual than the film does because of the way that it portrays Clarisse, its inclusion of the Mechanical Hound, the relationship that it builds between the reader and the characters, and the inclusion of Faber’s character. Clarisse McClellan plays a far more important role in the film adaptation than she does in the novel.…

Hi Julie. I agree with you that pointing out of the three methods of Newton’s work, “Newsom effectively convinces the audience of Miss Representation that the media does not portray women in a sense that women want to heard by including individuals voicing their thoughts, providing useful information, and personal experience.” First, I agree with you that the film has many individual’s negative perspective towards as a member of the society. As you mentioned, it provided plenty of useful information, such as “They showed the process of a model getting ready to get her makeup done to getting the pictures taken and getting photoshopped to the point where the model was unrecognizable.” I think the most effective method that Newsom used was by…

Alex Garland’s science-fiction film Ex Machina (2015) focuses around a female-presenting humanoid AI named Ava, her creator, the eccentric and wealthy Nathan, and Caleb, Nathan’s employee who is testing Ava’s capabilities. Due to the sexual nature of Ava and other AIs within the movie, many critics have condemned Garland for perpetuating the sexual exploitation of women. However, critics have also claimed the movie is meant to empower women and support a feminist movement. Due to the criticism of exploitation represented in the character of Kyoko, the weaponized nature of Ava’s forced sexuality, and the depiction historic feminism, Garland creates a feminist film seeking to ultimately empower women. Kyoko is initially introduced…
