As humans we do not like change. Even innovators have certain processes and activities that they cling to. In many cases stability is part of survival. Managing Resistance to Change by Ken Hultman, address resistance to change, what that resistance is characterized by, and how to avoid resistance to change. From this selection I learned about the different types of resistance. Hultman explains that resistance comes in many forms. He focuses on positive and negative resistance as well as passive and active resistance. Positive resistance is when resistance is a solution to negative change. Negative resistance is when resistance is a problem to positive change. Hultman also describes passive and active resistance. From this selection I learned that passive resistance is stagnant or lazy resistance. The person does not necessarily disagree with the change they just do not actively seek or encourage change. This includes withholding ideas, procrastinating, and not following through on promises. While active resistance is more like a protest. Actively finding fault in the system, being critical of processes, and blaming others. …show more content…
While making his claims he states that no change is neither inherently good nor bad. That all change is new. I disagree with this statement because I believe that change can be categorized. I believe is categorized by the situation that surrounds upcoming change. For example, changing a jobs because you were fired from your last job could be considered negative change. Especially, if the job change means taking a lower position, finding a job that makes you unhappy, or taking a pay cut. I question if change is not inheritably good or bad why are people better off or worst after a change occurs in their
