Summary Of Lord Of The Flies: Civilization

Bjondina Duka Civilization is the condition that exists when people have developed an effective ways of organizing a society and care about the beauty of life. On the other hand, savagery exists in the conditions when the people of society are acting uncivilized and when they will do whatever is necessary for the benefit of them, usually not concerned with the feelings of others. Since the basic flow of mankind is inherent in man, Jack, the leader of the hunters, had to go through a major character change in Lord of the Flies. Early in the book Lord of the Flies, Jack, the leader of the hunters, showed signs proving that he was civilized and disciplined days after being on the island. Even though Jack lost the vote to be the leader to Ralph, Jack accepted the role of being the leader of the hunters. Unlike his last encounter with the pig, once Jack receives another chance to kill the pig he kills it without any hesitation. The savagery caught up onto Jack, it can be seen in his crave for power. Unlike the civilized Jack, the leader of the hunters wasn’t enough power for the savage Jack. Jack used the fear of the beastie to gain power and ultimately he dragged the boys away from Ralphs efficient leadership, to what ultimately became a dictatorship ruling. In the end it can be seen how a civilized person can quickly turn into a savage without the basic rules of society. Since the basic flow of mankind is inherent in man, Jack, the leader of the hunters, had to go through a major character change in Lord of the Flies. Throughout the book we can see how jack transformed from a civilized boy, who was disciplined to a savage who was willing to do anything, if it benefited him.
