Summary Of Lilitha's Outwards: A Narrative Fiction

The sound of weeping brought Lilitha back into consciousness — but only slightly. Through slanted eyes, she became aware of the moon who lingered behind thin scudding clouds. The customary contentment was long gone; there was no luminosity to offer, no milky light to lessen the discomfort. It seemed she and her sister, Lilly, were able to successfully escape from those damned werewolves. Thank goodness… Excruciating pain erupted through her broken body as though a fire spreading immensely fast. Who knew such agony could take place? And Lilitha moaned a cry as she altered her sight downwards. Blood was everywhere; bones that weren’t supposed to be witnessed, protruded outwards in a sickening manner. Dying. I’m dying, she thought deliriously while struggling to breathe. It was harsh and unpracticed. Each breath caused a new wave of unimaginable pain. …show more content…
She carefully positioned Lilitha’s head onto her lap, bowing her back as she continued to cry. “Please Moon Goddess, please. Save my sister.” Her words clung to the air, but nothing more. It was pointless. If it weren’t for Lilitha, the two wouldn’t be in this type of situation. They wouldn’t be close to death or running for their lives. The final book in Butler’s Lilith’s Brood series is Imago, a word which initially brought to my mind imago dei. However, a more interesting connection might be in the biological definition of “imago”. In this framework, “imago” refers to “an insect in its final, adult, sexually mature, and typically winged state” ; the imago stage is the final one before metamorphosis is complete. I wonder if Butler had this idea in mind when naming the last book in her trilogy; she certainly engages many scientific and biological ideas throughout (her ecology, her use of cancer, etc.). Imago is the conclusion to the trilogy; it is the last glimpse readers have into what the future of humanity will be.…

    2. St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves told the story of werewolf girls raised by wolves and their journey of education and civilization. This piece incorporated vivid imagery that transported me, the reader to a surreal supernatural world. Reading about the girls’ journey in becoming anthropomorphic evoked feelings of recognition and sympathy in regards to difficulty of adapting to a new environment, culture, and language. By the end of the story, I simultaneously felt proud of Claudette for her accomplishments yet saddened by her loss of her own wolf culture and her inability to connect with her family.…
