In his breakthrough article “Inventing the University”, David Bartholomae (1986) discusses the problem undeveloped writers have when it’s time to write for a class, they must use the discourse of the scholarly community they are speaking to. The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. Flannery O’Connor produced a short story—one that almost allows the reader to have free admission into their own objective thoughts—titled “The Lame Shall Enter First” (1965).
