When Lewis Hale was retelling the story of what he saw he initially stated that Mrs. Wright was just sitting in the rocker acting out of sorts (Glasspell, 1916.) When Mrs. Wright tells Mr. Hale that he cannot see her husband because he is dead, she laughs, has a dull tone in her voice, and does not seem to be upset. The house was not clean as if she did not care or was upset. Half the table was wiped off and the other half not as if she did not want to clean the side of Mr. Wright’s half purposely. Mrs. Peters and Mrs. Hale find Mrs. Wrights sewing projects that appeared to be messed up as if she was upset while sewing. In the sewing box, the lady’s find the dead pet bird of Mrs. Wrights.
