The book that I chose to write my summer reading assignment on was To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Scout and Jem Finch of Maycomb county in Alabama have always been intrigued with the Radley Place. The Radley Place is owned by Nathan Radley and Boo Radley, but Boo Radley never seems to venture to the outside world. Atticus Finch is a notable lawyer who will take on any challenge. So when Atticus Finch is defending a black man named Tom Robinson for being accused of raping a white girl, Maycomb county is up in arms over it because they are known for being a racist community. What comes out of the court case shocks Scout, Atticus had completely proved that Tom Robinson hadn’t raped Mayella but in fact that her father had beaten her. The all white jury concludes that Tom Robinson was still guilty because of the color of his skin. Bob Ewell, Mayella’s father, was pleased with the verdict but was not happy with how Atticus and the court room made him look therefore he wants to seek revenge. Bob Ewell messes with Tom Robinson’s widow, breaks into the judge’s house, and attacks Scout and Jem when walking home from a school play. Boo Radley gets involved and saves the children and rushes Jem who is hurt home. The sheriff comes to the conclusion that Mr. Ewell had tripped over a tree root and fell on top of his own knife and killed himself. In the end, Scout realizes that Boo Radley has finally become a real human being to her. The five main characters in “To…
