He appears to use pornography as a way to self-sooth when he is experiencing acute stress and anxiety, and or when he is bored. He also disclosed that he enjoys pornography and views it when he becomes sexually aroused and uses it to aid in his masturbation. Kaamon does not fully understand how viewing pornography is dangerous at this time. He is able to see the connection between his pornography viewing and his committing offense, but does not see it as a current high-risk behavior when he is actively in the act of viewing pornography while masturbating. He states that once he is done masturbating, he is overcome with a sense of shame and guilt because he knows that he is in violation of his probation and treatment rules, as well as his religious beliefs. The challenge at this time is to break through the “Distant Elephant” thinking error where he does not see the danger until it is too late.
