The Chosen Movie Analysis

There are a lot of correlations between the movie we just watched “The Chosen”, and the history of Judaism. The notion of a chosen people descended from Noah to Abraham, Moses, and David. Some examples of that are henotheism, Changing Abram’s name to Abraham, circumcision, and the Promise of Progeny. With Moses it was the covenant of law and love. David with being the “son” of God, and him being the first Messiah. The Jewish had 613 commandments while the Gentiles have 10. Being chosen means you have great privileges and trials. In the film, they are currently going through some of those trials. The Jews in Europe are dealing with the Holocaust, and the local Hasidic Jews are discriminated against for their appearance during the movie.
In Jewish history, which is a divinely inspired one, when things go wrong it is a test of enduring pain. An example is when Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac to show his love of god, he was willing to commit a horrible act because of his faith. That act of faith is something that God remembers when he is about to do something horrible to the human race. The nation of Israel, whom God has higher expectations than everyone else. A group of Jews who suffer on behalf of other Jews. It could be an individual who accepts all of the pain for the whole, similar to Jesus for the Christians, and a redeemer for their people. Suffering is deemed redemptive when someone is a sacrifice for sin, and will be healed after his suffering and their efforts are victorious. In the film, as mentioned earlier there is a scene with Rebbe Saunders who is reading a newspaper that has the headline of 6,000,000 Jews murdered during the Holocaust.
