In Jewish history, which is a divinely inspired one, when things go wrong it is a test of enduring pain. An example is when Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac to show his love of god, he was willing to commit a horrible act because of his faith. It could be an individual who accepts all of the pain for the whole, similar to Jesus for the Christians, and a redeemer for their people. Suffering is deemed redemptive when someone is a sacrifice for sin, and will be healed after his suffering and their efforts are victorious.
