On a Sunday afternoon, Lennie is alone in the barn, sitting in the hay. He’s stroking the dead body of his puppy. However, he gets scared that George will discover the puppy and get angry that Lennie killed it, so he hides the puppy in the hay. He takes it out again but then throws the puppy across the barn because he is angry that it died. Soon, he takes it again and decides to stroke it more. After a while of talking to himself, Curley’s wife enters and sits next to him. He quickly hides the puppy and tells her that George told him not to speak to her.
