Notorious Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County Summary

The American writers during this time wrote a great deal of fictional stories that goes into in depth detail. Mark Twain in the story “life on the Mississippi” talked about how the whole town revolved around the ships, and during that he went into great detail how the town was. During Mark Twains story “Notorious Jumping frog of Calaveras County” he gives us a good look on the type of person Jim Smiley was and how big of a gambler he was. While Mark Twain went into detail about his characters Sarah Orin author of “A white heron” goes into great detail about nature and the animals that live outdoors. Jim was an avid high stakes gambler, but he wasn’t a casino guy. Jim was a guy who would buy animals train them to their peak performance and then compete with them and place bets. During the story he had three animals he had a horse, dog, and a frog. The horse was a great runner but he blew out his internals during a race. The dog was a fighter and would just knaw on there back legs until they would give up, and the only reason that dog lost was because one of his opponents didn’t have any hind legs. Smiley then got this frog and when he got it he trained it to jump the higher, faster, and farther than any other frog in the county. This story focused on the scenery and being in nature and all of the surroundings in the setting. This goes into very in depth detail about all of the animals they wonder upon especially the birds. One of the biggest components to this piece is when it talks about the forest waking up and all of the different noises and animals waking up. Even though it is just a story it puts a good image into your head about what is going on and all the noises the character is hearing. After she finds the heron nest the heron flies up into the tree next to her and it goes into so much detail and its like you can feel the birds soft white
