In Jennifer Macke’s essay,” Permanent Tracings” essay she visits the Living Color Tattoo Parlor. She observes the parlor, manager, and the customers there. After visiting the parlor her initial thought on tattoo parlors, tattoo parlor managers, and customers who get tattoos be-cause of the satisfied clients and the beautiful skin art. One customer from Macke’s planning notes were the couple with a young school aged daughter who came in to get a tattoo for the wife. The wife would most likely get a tattoo of a rose on her ankle because Gasket the owner of the parlor told her the price will depend on how thick she wants the rose vine. One kind of tattoo they would likely want is a tattoo of a picture of a sailboat that they used to sail in. They would want this tattoo because they want show others that they were a sailor, remember that they were a sailor, and show others they were a sailor Another type of tattoo that drunken sailors would likely want is a tattoo of sunset behind a lighthouse. They might want this tattoo because it represents a sailor at night looking for land and the lighthouse and sunset help them find it. The sailors appreciate sunsets behind a lighthouse so they get a tattoo of it. A third type of tattoo they would likely want is a tattoo of an anchor. They would want an anchor because anchors represent sailors and prevent boats from sinking or moving. A third type of people Macke would normally expect at a tattoo parlor is alcoholics. One kind of tattoo they would likely want is the name of their favorite bar. They would want this as a tattoo because they love alcohol and love going to that bar to drink. The owner did not fit Macke’s expectations because Macke learned that the owner is a college-educated engi-neer. Macke also learned that the owner is super sterile and puts his single use needles and equipment through a strict procedure. The health department took on his policy and now re-quires all parlors to clean their needles the same way as Gasket’s.
