One lady, three husbands, and only one husband survives. Janie always thought of her life as a part of nature. Janie always pictured her life like a peach tree in leaf with things that suffered. Janie always knew there was dawn and doom within her branches. Janie was an orphan who was taken in by her grandmother, Janie’s nanny was her only family and wanted the absolute best for her. Nanny wanted a man who would forever care for Janie once she passed on from earth so that Janie would always have someone. One afternoon Janie was caught kissing a boy who she grew up with. When her nanny caught her, her nanny knew it was time for her to be married off to someone. Janie did not have a say to whom she married. Logan married Janie for her beautiful looks and did not truly care if she was happy or not but he took good care of her. Logan was an older man who had a house on acres of land to farm and take care of. Janie felt he tended more to his land than he did to her, and Janie was over trying to make herself happy with someone who she did not love. Janie had always pictured her life differently and always pictured her life to be full of true love. One day while Logan was off to buy a mule for Janie to help him on the land, a gentleman named Joe came walking by. Joe could not help himself but flirt and be as kind as possible to Janie considering how beautiful she was. Later that night while in bed Janie was asking Logan what he would do if she ran off and never came back. Logan trying to be a strong man was acting as if he did not care if Janie ran off. They both laid there in pain that night but the next morning Janie was gone through the gate and was never coming back; “ He hoped that he hurt her as she had hurt him” ( Hurston 31).
