The majority of these pictures were not just about her they often depicted issues in the modern world. These issues would be things like the role of women and the role of artists in general.…
Thomas King’s “A Coyote Columbus Story” is about retelling the truth of Columbus’s history, which reminds me the question on the fairy tale my little sister asked me. Last summer, my uncle and his family came to my house for a family party, and I met my cousin. While playing with my cousin, she asked me a question “Do you know how the mother in the fairy tale name ”Coconut shell” got pregnant?” I answered “Because she drink the water from the coconut shell”.…
Tracking the Chupacabra by Benjamin Radford still intrigues the typical mindset of our society today. His two chapters, "A brief History of Vampires" and "Chupacabra in Pop Culture", establish the foundation of Puerto Rico and other Spanish peaking countries superstitions and while indefinitely, inscribing the significant background of its vampiric roots and the impact it has in our culture. Radford's work is extremely fascinating, to not only describe the encounters of the Chupacabra in its prime, but the origins of vampires themselves dating back to ancient Greece, Egypt, India, and Norse mythology entitling, "the older version of vampires were not thought to be human at all but instead supernatural - possibly denomic - that were never humans therefore did not take human form as they stalked…
Many years ago, laying out on the trampoline late at night, I remember hearing the coyotes howl and yip in the field bordering my friend’s house. The sound so frightened us that we promptly rushed inside. To children that grew up never truly in the country, only on the edge of town, coyotes seemed so wild. However, as Dan Flores illuminates in his book, Coyote America: A Natural and Supernatural History, that encounter was not an unusual experience at all. In the past century coyotes have spread across all reaches of the United States.…

After attending the Ivan Coyote performance yesterday, I have learned a lot more about they ways how speaking and storytelling can convey certain messages. The performance was very powerful and emotional and the way he told the story to the audience made us feel as if we were involved in his life and felt very engaged. Also, before Coyote came on stage Janice Lee opened, and she sang her poems to the audience. problemsThese were about social justice issues and matters that needed to be changed in society. By singing her songs, the people for one become more engaged in the topics.…

In Sylvia Townsend Warner’s The Phoenix, The Phoenix acts as a pivotal figure throughout the story. However, The Phoenix serves as more than just a mere character, but also as an allegorical symbol. It is evident throughout the piece that Warner utilized The Phoenix to symbolize man’s desecration of the natural world in his quest for monetary gain. “It was a remarkably fine phoenix, with a charming character” (Warner 3). Warner begins her piece with vivid descriptions of the majestic sanctity of The Phoenix.…
Alice Walker is an esteemed Author who is celebrated for her work internationally, she won a Pulitzer Prize in Fiction in 1983 and has been awarded the national book award. One of her works Everything is a Human Being is an exceptionally striking piece that uses a Native American literature style as opposed to the more western-centric western literature style. Walker’s text Everything is a Human Being shows the difference between Native American and western culture and the connection between the abuse of natural resources by western civilization and the mistreatment minority peoples. Walker attains this by using intertextuality and linking the current destruction of nature to previous destruction of minority civilizations, she shows the ecological…
In modern times, the western approach towards nature and Life is practical in the sense that it can all be explained by a scientific phenomenon. Due to this mentality, spiritual connections to our roots, nature and Life, are abysmal. To Linda Hogan, writer of Dwellings, this inauspicious approach confirms a detachment from “the treaties once made with [nature]”(11), to which Native Americans dearly hold on to. Throughout Dwellings, Hogan recounts significant experiences that enable her to inch closer to her roots and raise her awareness on the beauties of Life.…
