Eyes Wide Open In the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Hospitality Public Service Announcement video: “If You See Something, Say Something™”, the audience is persuaded to take a stand and be a part of keeping the United States of America safe to live and explore. This is especially while on vacation or on business and traveling through the fifty states. We see people in different situations and circumstances enjoying their day with a prudency towards keeping their environments safe. We as Americans consider traveling as a part of our everyday lives. Every detail in this video has been scrutinized and chosen with strict purpose. Within each scene, well dressed couples and families of all races enjoy nice restaurants, courtyard performers, clean public transportation and luxury hotels. Every actor is portraying travelers full of and content. It is not just the travelers, but every hotel worker, server, and trolley driver is also equally content and working with integrity. Pathos is used frequently in this video. When the gentlemen said, “miss, your bag” (“If You See Something, Say Something™”), he was doing his part in a couple of ways. First, he was being kind by informing the lady that she left something valuable behind. Second, if the lady was involved in something unlawful and the bag had something in it that could potentially harm the other guests, he was calling it out in a tone that was respectful but also making it aware to the nearby workers and management. Pathos moves directly towards ones emotions. The fact that all the actors in the video represent the creators intended audience makes it seem like it could happen to any one of us.
