Ballet is an artistic movement that is performed by ballerinas wearing specific costumes. It can be telling a story which express feelings and thoughts. It was originally started in the 15th century, ballet was performed in the Italian Renaissance court. Noblemen and women learnt the steps and movements from the dancing masters, then they participate in the performance with the music in celebration events in the court. A century later, an Italian noblewoman, Catherine de Medici, who was the wife of King Henry II of France, and she was a patron of art as she began to introduce ballet of early dance style into the French court (Atlanta Ballet). In the 17th century, King Louis XIV invited…
Ballet has always been near and dear to my heart, so much so that I took a year off from high school to pursue it on a professional level. During my year away I came to the firm conclusion that there was far more in life I cared to pursue then the four-mirrored walls I had come to know as home. I was lucky enough to find an amazing high school with a specialized “pre-med” program, the director with whom I have come to know far more as a mentor than as a teacher. Dr. Carlos Pulido is one of the wisest men I have met to date, a retired chief of surgery and certified army trauma surgeon, he is a remarkable example of all I hope to achieve in my life.…
Louis XIV was trained in ballet starting during his childhood. When he was fifteen years old Louis played in a ballet as Apollo the sun god. Louis ended up playing in eighty major roles in many different ballets, as many different characters. Although Louis XIV was a very skilled dancer his main contribution to Ballet was when he founded the Royal Academy of Dance in 1661.…

Louis XIV was the king of France from 1643 until his death September 1st, 1715. Known as the Sun King, he ruled for 72 years, longer than any other European monarch in history (History.com). Although he was a power-driven man who believed in the divine right of kings and established the system of absolute monarchical rule that lasted for 74 years until the French revolution in 1789, he was also an avid purveyor of the arts, especially ballet. It was through his passion of dance amid the strictness of an absolute monarchy that France became and continues to be a central destination for ballet.…
The great warrior King Louis XIV brought to life the French tradition of court ballet. His love for dance performances was one of the ways a person was able to win him over. King Louis XIV built the palace of Versailles so he had a place to hold ballets. If he invited you to this lavish palace, you were required to dance and dance well. If you were not exceptional at dancing you didn't matter to him. King Louis XIV was given the nickname "The Sun King" from his role as Apollo in Ballet de la Nuit. It wasn't until he retired from dancing that his most important contribution was made. This is when he established a training facility to professionalize ballet, called Academie Royale de la Danse.…
In “A Dance through the Ages,” a practicum performance focusing on various social and courtly dances throughout many generations, two distinct sections of the dance are evident: a montage of more formal, courtly dances and a montage of more fun, racy social dances. These two distinct categories are meant to represent a chronologically accurate record while also providing the audience with a glimpse at the evolution of formality in dance. Beginning with the Pavane, the dance progresses to the Minuet and eventually to a nineteenth century Waltz. After a quick break in the music, the performance provides a glimpse of Swing, Disco, and social hip hop dances of today. Although the overall performance intends to depict the progressing decrease in formality over time, a dance historian would immediately point out that one of these dances is incorrectly placed into the “formal” category—the nineteenth century Waltz.…
Best summed up by an article from the Tab, “There is nothing like being on a dance team. It is one of those things – you can only fully comprehend it if you’re a part of one.” (Pandey,Secrets Everyone In A Dance Team Knows,The Tab) there are so many things that many people outside of the team do not know. Some people think it is easy and that we barely do anything, others are more knowledgeable, but will never truly understand. If you are contemplating trying out for the dance team you have a few things to learn or if you are part of the student body you also have a few things to learn. Dance is a hard sport and being a dancer you put in a lot of blood, sweat and tears to be out on the field or court for about two minutes.…
When first reading the title of the article it gave me the impression that ballet is more beneficial than just your health. It is important that you get work skills experience for jobs and it is amazing that ballet can make you a better leader. After reading this article it is clear that ballet helps you with aspects that can make you a good leader. Also, some of the points were more figurative than literal. For example, they use spotting as a metaphor for keeping your eye the goal. I did learn some new ideas that I have never thought could be beneficial to leadership from ballet. For example, it helps you to present yourself when you have proper posture. Overall, this article taught me that there are many advantages of ballet that can help…
The article that I read is about a different type of dancing and, experiences of choreograph Hellene Neveu. Hellene is an anthropologist who spends most her time in Senegal studying dancing circles. She said “Dance Circles, took me on one of the most intellectually stimulating journeys that I have ever experienced”. She is a versatile dancer who examines dancers as people with great beauty. She also admires dancer because of their dancing, but how it helps shape individual socially and fashionably. In the article, Helene Neveu observes dancers in four different categories. The groups of dancers were sober, Urban Popular Dance, Neo-traditional Performance and Contemporary Choreograph. These groups of dancers were selected to demonstrate how…
Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving, the most beautiful of the arts, because it is no mere translation or abstraction from life; it is life itself.(Ellis, Ch.2) There are many styles of dancing, the basics being ballet, tap, and jazz. They are defined, unique styles, but they are all considered a form of art. It’s all very dynamic and visual like art. All styles are defined by their steps, technique, and training, but they’re all the same in that they are a visual form of self-expression. At the end of the day dance isn’t something that is just performed, it is created and treated as living, moving art.…
Ballet, which is a one form of performance dance. On Thursday, I went to Lehman Theater and watched a wonderful ballet show; and that was my first time to watch the ballet performance on site. It was so exciting, I think many girls have a dream that one day they would become a beautiful ballerina who wears a tutu dress dancing on the stage. When I was got there, I just found the near the front of site to sit, so that could be get closer to see the performance. When all of lights was getting dark, every audiences kept quiet and waited for the show.…
Between 1830 and 1850 classical dance has evolved significantly from its early years in French aristocratic court life, but no other period in its history created such monumental change as the Romantic Era. Despite the brevity of this period, it created radical change and helped form ballet into what it is today. Its impact can be seen in simple changes to costuming and theatrical innovations, which made a significant and substantial impression on how the public perceived dance. These technological advances revolutionised the theatre going experience. Iconic themes that were generated by the likes of Marie Taglioni brought depth and emotion to what were previously one-dimensional storylines, along with the development of how the…
Once I was struggling with a very complex physics problem and I spent as much time as I could to figure it out but unfortunately I just couldn’t. In that moment a surge of anxiety and frustration flowed to me. All of a sudden, a new email popped up on my computer screen. I felt so annoyed by the email that interrupt my thinking, but I still read it. It was from one of my classmates who was writing to asking me to help her revise her just finished essay. To be honest, I was so perturbed that I didn’t really want to help her, but since I was trapped by the physics problem and had nothing else to do, I still helped her check her essay. It was a fairly great essay with good content and logic but terribly poor grammar. She made so many careless…
Dance is defined, by Merriam-Webster, as movement of “your body in a way that goes with the rhythm and style of music that is being played.” Throughout history it has evolved to fit the ever changing world around us. From Native Americans to Miley Cyrus, dance has remained a popular activity, whether for religious aspects or entertainment purposes. It seems no matter the style of dance, regarding the past century, there is always disapproval somewhere. Usually this disapproval comes from older generations who are unwilling to surcum to new trends. Over the past hundred years, dance has been continuously altered by younger generations interested in contemporary ideals.…
