Everyday we learn something new about ourselves. Daniel “Henry”, is finding himself starting at the very beginning. But his case is unique. In fact, he doesn’t know himself at all. Henry was found in Penn station by two homeless teenagers. They lived in an alley and told Henry he could stay with them. Henry ended up finding out they were a part of a drug deal and ran away from them because he didn’t want to be involved. Henry then searches the city in the woods by a replicated cabin of Thoreau. Mind you, Henry is a huge Thoreau fan seems as he can quote just about his whole life. Henry is all over the place throughout the whole book. He is in and out of the woods quite a bit. He set himself up on a journey in little steps to find himself. When Henry wakes up in Penn station, he is greeted by a crazy man Frankie, repeating, “are you gonna eat that?” (pg.1) referring to his book that he has by his side. Getting Frankie to shoo, Henry takes the train and heads to the woods to see if he can find any traces of Thoreau, only to run into a tourist named Thomas.
Thomas isn’t only a tourist, but also a researcher at the Thoreau library. Henry tells Thomas his situation and Thomas takes him to the library to let Henry figure out some things that he wants to find out. Henry falls asleep on the couch and starts dreaming. In his dream, he sees glimpses of what his parents look like and finds that him and his little sister have been in a horrible accident then all of a sudden, blood everywhere. What could’ve happened?
Later, Thomas finds Henry at the bottom of Walden pond (pg.135) at the trail in the woods, he takes Henry out of the pond, and takes him back to his place and waits for him to awake. After he awakes, the journey
