Jan a personal injury attorney has a good firm. A women comes to him about the death of several children diagnosed with leukemia in a town. All she wanted was an apology. He turns down the case but after looking at a site with J. Riley truck dumping he decides to take on the case. He asks employees if they have ever seen dumping of waste. The chemical in question was trichloroethanol. One man had witness dumping and stated that after drinking the water his son has seizures and his eldest daughter had three miscarriages. A lot of people were sick and dying in that area. The companies question the families about the illnesses and use everyday occurrences as an explanation. One man had a son with leukemia and had his immune system storn down …show more content…
One man said there were 50 or more barrels of trichloroethanol under the plant. The employee said they were instructed to dig a ditch and dump it in the trench. Jan offered to the companies to just pay for the research, cleanup, and families. They declined the offer which set up a situation for a trial. Beatrice claims to have donated, the land that was seen as gruesome, to a wildlife preserve. There were no animals inhabiting that area and the preserve had not indignation of it. Beatrice was excused, and was not held responsible for the land. The firm had lost all their money to the case. They even sold the deeds to their houses to the bank. Jan was offered 8 million dollars for everything. He presented it to his client that each family was to get 375 thousand dollars. She was set on an apology to the responsible party. Jan apologized, but she felt he was not sincere and his losses did not compare to theirs. They had found an ex-employee who had rented dump truck and cranes. He told of how his employer told them to get rid of everything because the inspector was coming. On the last day kids were playing with fire crackers on the land.
