Summary Of Gerald Hirsch's Response To Kelly

Improved Essays
Gerald Hirsch response to Kelly articles was justified because Kelly lacks empathy for humans. Kelly has shown us of little he cares about the thoughts and emotions of these humans. He keeps talking about how the robots will take our jobs and created new jobs but he never mentions how the worker and people would feel about it. “we need to let robots take over. They will do jobs we have been doing, and do them much better than we can.”(pg-311). Kelly says that robots are better and faster than us, and we should just give up our jobs for these robots. What will happen to these people that surrender their jobs to these robots? These people are going to be unemployed without a source of income. We all know the jobs that the robots will create for

Luckily, Thomas Frey writes a two-page quasi-extension to Alessandri’s article, Frey’s being entitled “Hi, I’m a Robot and I’m Here to Take Your Job.” Be sure not judge this book by its cover, Frey might surprise you. Like Alessandri, Frey agrees that human workers will no longer be needed as drivers in the transportation industry after autonomous vehicles begin to popularize. Frey states that “Driverless cars [...] will replace the need for drivers,” and an extension to Alessandri’s claim, adds on by explaining, “there is never a 100% replacement rate” (Frey).…

Henry David Thoreau once said, “ Men have become tools of their tools.” This meaning that we have become part of the technology we have created and must create a relationship with the machines. This relationship will help us move forward and be more innovative. We have read Why Robots Will and Must Take Our Jobs by Kevin Kelly and Blue Collar Brilliance by Mike Rose, these two readings have made realize how much technology and humans can accomplish together. Author Kevin Kelly’s argument about the importance of humans collaborating with technology helps me see something new in Mike Rose’s argument about blue collar workers skills, especially Kevin Kelly’s analysis of the baxter’s abilities can be used at the diner and uncle Joe’s job, the development…

Kelly sets up the stage for his argument by creating a scenario in where many people will be unemployed and replaced by robots. Kelly tries to make the reader feel fear of losing their job and only having the option to give it up. He engages the reader by setting up a future in where people will have many benefits when robots and machines replace human labor from many areas of work (299). Also, the author supports his argument with evidence from the 19th century, where farmers lost their agriculture job and found new industrial job (299). He tries to make the reader think the change will be a pattern from the past and that the economy would be better off with robots doing the work.…

Kevin Kelly’s article starts off by talking about how automation slowly replaced half the work force during the industrial revolution. He mentions that those who during that time period were replaced did not sit idle but found and created new jobs for themselves and others. Mr. Kelly uses this idea of the work force being replaced by steadily improving automation, yet the replaced work force creates new jobs instead of sitting idle, to propel his idea of people being replaced by machines as a positive thing. Mr. Kelly talks about how robots already do the work that humans are incapable of doing, such as working in hazardous locations doing hard labor. Thankfully Mr. Kelly points out that robots will slowly take over white collar jobs, do…

In his essay “Better than Human: Why Robots Will-and Must- Take Our Jobs,” Kevin Kelly, executive editor of Wired magazine focuses not on the economic effect automations have caused for the countless number of laborious jobs, but on how robotics have created millions of jobs for people in entirely new fields. Kelly, argues that robots have become a revolutionary outbreak since more can get done in a timely matter. But Kelly’s argument is completely bias because even though Kelly brings up many well-supported points about the benefits of automations, he neglects to mention the negative aspects of the rise in technology. Kelly’s zealous writing merriments that he has a passionate view of the industrial side of the American community and does…

If people instead use technology to gain a “much deeper understanding” (par 6), companies can improve human productivity instead of replacing humans altogether. As a solution, use AI to replace deadly jobs and only assist jobs in demand to enhance work production. Human mistakes can lead to injuries and death because humans are very fragile. Machinery can last a much longer time and no one would freak out to the destruction of an A.I. if it doesn’t affect the human body directly. Companies shouldn’t use robots to take over work that is tedious but to cover humans on work too dangerous for the human body.…

Autor and “The Future of Jobs: How Susceptible are Jobs to Computerisation?” by Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael A. Osborne, The authors’ purpose is to take on the task of explaining the effect of Automation on the labor market in the past and what it means for the future. Autor uses strong logical arguments (logos), and his expertise in economics (ethos) to assert that there will always be a demand for jobs in the face of automation, but his essay doesn’t guarantee the quality of those jobs or that our society will be readily qualified for the good skillful jobs that will be created. Ultimately this introduces a call to action for society to invest in human…

As people continue to upgrade and advance computer technology, focusing on mimicking human traits and patterns, it won’t be long until robots begin to replace us. Many people can say without hesitation that mass unemployment will erupt as companies resort to cheaper and more efficient artificial workers. People like Elon Musk describe how the only way for people to stay relevant is by getting upgraded themselves, adding mechanical aspects to enhance our skills. This second part doesn’t seem too bad, in fact its a sci-fi lovers dream (my dream) of slowly becoming one with robots.…
