The piece that is in accordance with one of George Orwell's propaganda techniques is a contemporary political cartoon. Illustrated is a man sweating profusely, donned in a sweater with the American flag, sucking his thumb, and cowering behind his curtains. From outside this man's comically large window are two things. One is a colossal eyeball with tarantula lashes and "NSA" in its pupil. The second is a caricature of Obama, holding a large mascara wand. The president is shown saying "There. Made some changes. Happy now?". This cartoon is used to portray a heavily debated issue that has many Americans in a state of panic and confusion.
The topical matter being addressed involves privacy issues with the NSA. The NSA, or National Security Agency, is responsible for monitoring on a global scale. They collect, analyze, decode, and translate potentially "dangerous" information from foreign intelligence. The NSA has the ability to track phone numbers, set up fake Internet cafes, spy on foreign leaders cellular phones, tap into video conferences, monitor texts, access web history, much, much more. The people -rightfully- feel things have gone too far in the name of safety. After much outrage and voicing among the people, the president addressed the issue. One I observed was the government's refusal to better the livelihood of its citizens. Instead, they use of a guise of doing so, in order to appease the masses. If the people are sufficiently frightened for their well being, and/or properly indoctrinated, this goes smoothly.
