In “Genetically Modified Food” Mike LaBossiere claims that creating genetically modified foods for human consumption is morally permissible on utilitarian grounds. He assumes that the efficiencies of producing genetically modified foods outweighs the possible disadvantages, which he argues are minimal. Among the disadvantages he lists are arrogation concerns, the effect on the consumer’s health, and corporate exploitation. Arrogation concerns or “playing god” is the first rebuttal LaBossiere mentions.
