Summary Of Future Perfect By Jen Larsen

The book I chose to write about is called “Future Perfect” by Jen Larsen. This book is about sixteen year old Ashley Perkins and the different problems she faces in her senior year of high school with her family, friends, school, and finding her self-image/identity. Throughout this book, I felt a mix of emotions. I felt shock when Ashley’s grandmother bribed her to get weight loss surgery for a full tuition to Harvard. I couldn’t believe that her grandmother constantly pushed her down, making her feel insecure and uncomfortable in her own skin, when she should have been encouraged for her great accomplishments and amazing personality. Although at times people …show more content…
She is very brave and I adore that. I read many different changes and turns through this book, but what surprised me the most was when Jolene, one of Ashley’s best friends, was not accepted for who she was in her family. She changed from male to female at a young age and her family quickly called it a “phase” and quickly ignored it. As years went by, Jolene’s family still called her David, and thought she needed counselling or therapy. They thought she was confused, but she wasn’t. I wished they would listen to her, seriously and with full support. If I were in Jolene’s position, I would calmly talk to my family, and would hope they respect and support my decision. This is happens all around the world today. Many people do not support transgender people, but this is a huge issue that needs to come to an end because everyone should be treated equally. I hope Ashley achieves great success and creates a change in this world as she had hoped to. I hope she doesn’t receive any more weight loss bribes from her grandmother, and never questions her body and image. As for Jolene, I hope she lives a happy and

Adversity is a basic part of humanity. Without adversity there would never be progress, however, it can be excruciatingly painful. So how-if it is so painful-could this led to progress and relief? Adversity is conflict, it is struggle, and once struggle occurs, the problem can be noticed. This is shown to be true by Barbara Kingsolver in The Bean Trees, Desiderius Erasmus in In Praise of Folly, and Dave Philipps in “Second Judge Blocks Trump’s Transgender Ban in the Military”.…

It is unsurprising for a seasoned author like J.K. Rowling to write an empowering piece; however, what is astonishing is the poignant way in which she delivered the commencement speech to the Harvard graduating class of 2008. Her speech was meant to enlighten the graduates about life after college by focusing on the benefits of failure and the importance of imagination. The commencement speech followed a topical pattern, thus she centered her speech around life after college and the equal importance of failure and imagination by utilizing her own life experiences as a mere twenty-year-old to explain her main points. Not only was the speech easy to follow because she clearly stated what she would speak about, She delivered the speech in a truly…
