My internship is with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, SCDSS, in the Foster Care Division. Children who are alleged to have been abused or neglected and who are not able to remain safely in their home environments and are unable to placed with a relative for fictive kin relative must enter a foster care setting. SCDSS overall mission it to provide services to children and their families to strengthen the family and that allows for children to remain safely in their home. This mission is accomplished through collaborative efforts from field caseworkers, supervisors, upper level management and other outside agencies. This collaboration is importance to the safety, permanency, and well-being of children in care as these decisions
